MOONWATCHERS

It is Rocko and Allen’s job to watch the moon, and it is really quite boring. Night after night, they time the sequences exactly - the cow jumps, the comet soars, but NEVER the alien spaceship. This is until the dastardly space criminal Tommy Rumble steals the moon, taking it to the far-off space desert of the Midnight Sun. This course of events sends the moonwatchers on an intergalactic space odyssey filled with music, love, new friendships, and epic showdowns to win back the one, the only, the Moon. Jeff recommended.

“The young company’s commitment and fearless embrace of over-the-top humor make the experience all the more infectious. It is an evening of high entertainment, placing Lazy Susan Theatre Co. in a well-deserved spotlight and giving audiences plenty to anticipate from the organization’s future work.”

EMILY WERNER, WERNER’S THEATRE REVIEW

“Conner Paulson brings considerable talent to his role as Dracula. He sways. He thrusts. He moves in a dance-like way that exudes his sexual power. He can do things with his eye balls you never thought possible.”

MARK REINECKE, AROUND THE TOWN CHICAGO

“The cast is fantastic, clearly enjoying both the show and each other, and fully committed to every absurdist moment. There were several times when I marveled at the cartoon-like body and facial movements of the cast members, who kept taking it up a notch as the audience responded with hysterics.”

ALLI DOUBEK, ENTERTAINING CHICAGO

Four actors on stage, dressed in period costumes, appearing surprised or confused during a theatrical performance.

There are three things I worship - the moon, the lake, and Patti Smith. When this show first landed in my lap, I couldn’t help but fall in love with the story of these two goofy, Midwestern moonwatchers. But this is not just a story about the moon, but a story about the lengths one would go to get it back. Scientifically, if the moon were to disappear, the Earth would literally tilt off its axis, our ocean tides would wreak havoc, and we’d either be burnt to a crisp or turned into popsicles. Yikes!

But the moon is more than just our planetary sister in the sky. The moon is friendship, love, and a light that guides us home. There are many different moons throughout our lives; some stay, some go, but either way, we are changed by the journey of knowing them.

It has been my absolute pleasure working with our cast and creative team, who have poured their hearts and time into getting this small but mighty show on its feet. I hope this show brings people back down to earth for just a moment, to sit together, laugh, and feel a little more excited about life than when they came in.
